FG TD to attend Obama nomination convention next week

A Fine Gael TD is set to attend the upcoming convention in the United States to nominate Barack Obama as the Democratic presidential candidate.

Donegal North East TD Joe McHugh will in Denver, Colorado, next week for the prestigious event, where Mr Obama is set to give the biggest speech of his campaign so far.

Mr McHugh says he plans to use the occasion to lobby on behalf of "undocumented" Irish citizens living and working illegally in the US.

He says both presidential candidates have so far been very silent on the issue because immigration is such a hot topic in the US.
