Armagh pensioner in wheelchair killed on holiday
A pensioner was killed when her wheelchair was hit by a car while she was on holiday in Tenerife.
Mother-of-five Molly Grimley, 78, from Portadown Road, Armagh, was with her two daughters when she was knocked down at a pedestrian crossing.
She had just left a restaurant in the busy resort of Las Americas.
It is understood the driver of the car was later detained by police, breath-tested and may face charges.
Mrs Grimley was thrown from her wheelchair and died later in hospital.
A post-mortem examination was carried out and arrangements are being made to fly her body home.
She has four daughters and a son.
Friends and neighbours in Armagh city’s Linsey Heights where she lived said they were stunned by the tragedy on Monday night, days after she arrived to begin her holiday.
SDLP councillor in Armagh Mealla Bratton said: “The community is in state of shock and disbelief.
“My sympathy goes out to this lady’s family and circle of friends at this sad time.
Local people are praying with them as they deal with this tragedy.“
