Injured man to be airlifted from yacht off Co Clare

The Shannon-based Coastguard helicopter has been despatched to airlift a man who has been seriously injured on board a yacht off the coast of Co Clare.

The man's companions raised the alarm at around 5.30am after he was struck on the head by a sail boom on board the 35ft French yacht, which is moored in Carrigaholt Bay.

The unconscious sailor is expected to be flown to hospital in Galway for treatment.
