Man still in custody in connection with Dublin gun incident

Gardaí in Dublin are continuing to question a 28-year-old man detained after allegedly threatening unarmed officers with a gun.

The man was arrested shortly before midnight on Wednesday night following the confrontation in the Dolphin's Barn area.

Unarmed gardaí challenged a man who had been acting suspiciously in the area, but he pointed a gun at them and ordered them to back off.

They called for back-up and a man who was allegedly wearing a bullet-proof vest was later arrested in the area.

A handgun was also recovered from the nearby Grand Canal by garda divers.
