Defence Minister: Situation in Chad is 'highly volatile'

The Minister for Defence has described the current situation in Chad as 'highly volatile'.

Willie O' Dea also says the involvement of Irish troops in peacekeeping efforts there is the most challenging mission ever undertaken by the Defence Forces.

Last month troops came under fire during clashes between rebels and government forces.

Minister O' Dea says everything is being done to ensure the troops are kept safe and that the situation is being monitored closely.
