Former Government minister Seamus Brennan will be laid to rest today after a Funeral Mass in his constituency.
The untimely death of the ex-Fianna Fáil politician has united all strands of political opinion in an outpouring of respect.
Academics, business leaders, charities, arts and culture agencies and sporting bodies have also joined a chorus of tributes for the former Dublin South TD.
Many are expected to turn out for his Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Church, in Dundrum, before his burial at St Nahi’s Cemetery.
President Mary McAleese said Mr Brennan’s self-effacing role in helping to build modern Ireland would leave a lasting mark on the country.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen remembered his former colleague as a brilliant political strategist, a dedicated constituency TD and a reforming government minister.
Originally from Galway, Mr Brennan headed up several government departments in a long political career spanning 30 years.
