New car sales down 18% last month

Car sales appear to be the latest area to suffer as a result of the economic slowdown.

Figures from the CSO today show the total number of new private cars licensed last month was down 18% on the figure for April 2007.

The most popular new cars were Fords, followed by Toyotas.

The total amount of all vehicles licensed dropped by 11% last month compared to April 2007.
