Man held in connection with doorman killing in the North
A man was arrested in the North today for questioning about the murder of a nightclub doorman nearly a year ago.
The 27-year-old was being quizzed about the killing of Brian McGlynn, 28, who was shot dead last June in the bedroom the Derry home he shared with his girlfriend.
The gunmen who entered the house in the Fountainhill area of the Waterside fired a number of shots at their victim during the 3am murder. The victim’s 24 year-old girlfriend escaped injury.
Mr McGlynn, who was originally from Strabane, Co Tyrone, worked as a doorman at the Red Rooms nightclub and at another pub in the city.
Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Smyth who led the investigation said at the time “this was a ruthless execution”.
He said the couple had been woken by the sound of the front door being smashed in and Mr McGlynn got up and was putting on some cloths when a gunman burst into the bedroom and shot him dead.
The suspect was taken to the PSNI Crime Suit in Antrim for questioning.
