A man was recovering in hospital today after being shot in the arm.

A man was recovering in hospital today after being shot in the arm.

Gardaí said he was sitting in his car in a pub car park in Ballintogher, Monasterevin, Co Kildare, at around 11.30pm yesterday when a lone gunman opened fire before making his escape.

The man, aged 32, was shot once in the arm, but managed to travel around 11km to Kildare Garda station where he reported the attack.

He was then taken to Naas hospital for treatment.

A garda spokesman said he has since been transferred to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The scene of the attack has been sealed off for a technical examination.

It is understood the gunman escaped by car.
