Kerryman scales Everest

A County Kerry man has reached the top of the world's highest mountain.

John Dowd, who is from Tarmons near Waterville, became the first Kerryman to make it to the peak of Everest, when he reached the summit at approximately 1am Irish time today.

Mr Dowd is part of a team including one French, one Dutch, two British and six Americans, who began the expedition to tackle the mountain in early April.
