Women’s Council moves to end pension inequality
The National Women’s Council is calling for measures to eradicate the unequal treatment of women in the area of pensions.
The council says the current system discriminates against women for a number of reasons.
It says women still earn an average of 15% less than men and work fewer hours, so their pension contributions are smaller.
Women also engage in considerably more unpaid domestic and caring work than men.
The Women's Council says new pension systems should be introduced to ensure that women do not suffer later in life because of these inequalities.
