Body exhumed as gardaí re-examine 1987 murder case
Gardaí investigating the disappearance and death of a 43-year-old man in 1987 have exhumed his remains from a cemetery in Co Westmeath today.
Brian McGrath disappeared in March 1987.
Six years later, gardaí investigating a tip-off found what they believe to be his body buried in a field in Coole.
Those remains have been exhumed at Whitehall Cemetery in Coole this morning and taken to Dublin for new tests.
Mr McGrath's family home in the town is also being forensically examined, along with the site where the body was found.
Gardaí say they are using technologies and investigative techniques which were not available to the original investigation team.
