Man dies after Mayo house fire

A 27-year-old man has died following a house fire in Co Mayo.

The blaze broke out at a house on McDermott Street in Ballina last Sunday evening.

The man died in St James' hospital in Dublin this morning as a result of injuries he sustained in the fire.

Gardaí arrested a 66-year-old man in connection with the incident, but he was later released without charge.

Gardaí in Ballina are investigating and a file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
