Outgoing Finance Minister Brian Cowen was today elected Taoiseach by the Dáil to succeed Bertie Ahern.

Outgoing Finance Minister Brian Cowen was today elected Taoiseach by the Dáil to succeed Bertie Ahern.

Mr Cowen won by 88 votes to 76 and was immediately given a standing ovation by party colleagues.
