Wexford couple both died of gunshot wounds

Post mortem examinations have revealed that the couple found dead along with their two children in Co Wexford over the weekend had died from gunshot wounds.

The family-of-four were found dead following a fire at their home in Clonroche on Saturday morning.

41-year-old Diarmuid Flood died from a single gunshot wound to the head, while his 38-year-old wife Lorraine sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Gardaí say that the precise cause of death of their children, Julie and Mark, will not be known until toxicology tests are completed.

Superintendent Kevin Donohue told a press briefing last night that they had injuries consistent with a fire, but this was not the cause of death.

He said Gardaí are investigating a number of theories in an effort to find out the exact circumstances of the deaths.
