External review announced into removal of wrong kidney

A team of experts from one of the worlds leading children's hospitals is to carry out an investigation into how the wrong kidney was removed from a child at Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin, it was confirmed this afternoon.

A team of experts from one of the worlds leading children's hospitals is to carry out an investigation into how the wrong kidney was removed from a child at Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin, it was confirmed this afternoon.

The external review by consultants from Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London will get underway once an internal review carried out by Crumlin Hospital is completed.

The external review will also make recommendations on future practice at the hospital.

The findings of the review are to be made available to the family of the child, and its key elements will also be made public.
