Garda hunt underway in Limerick after man shot dead

A Garda hunt is underway in Limerick this evening after a man was gunned down in the city earlier.

The victim, in his 30's and from Limerick City, was shot dead at around 2.45pm in Garryowen.

The victim had been talking with another man outside a shop in Garryowen when a black car, pulled up nearby and a passenger opened fire.

As the man in his 30's attempted to flee he was struck by a number of bullets and died at the scene.

The car sped off in the direction of the Tipperary Road but has since been found burned out in Drombanna.

The shooting is understood to be gangland related and the victim was known to Gardai.
