Bank of Ireland's chief economist is predicting that Ireland's unemployment rate will rise to 5.5% this year due to the slowdown in the construction sector.

In his latest economic outlook, Dan McLaughlin is predicting that 30,000 fewer houses and apartments will be built in 2008 compared to last year.
