Survey finds majority support zero alcohol limit

More than half of Irish people are in favour of a zero alcohol limit for motorists, according to a survey conducted by the road safety campaign group PARC.

The nationwide survey, supported by Alcohol Action Ireland, found that 99% of people support a reduction in the current limit of 80mgs.

More than two-thirds said they favoured a limit of 20 milligrams or less, which would effectively make it illegal to drive after one drink.

Alcohol Action Ireland says it will be sending the results to Transport Minister Noel Dempsey for his consideration.
