A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a taxi driver in Dublin on Tuesday night.

A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a taxi driver in Dublin on Tuesday night.

Carlos Byrne, with an address at Linnetsfield Square, Clonee, Dublin 15 is accused of killing 31-year-old Mark Smyth at Fortlawn Avenue in Blanchardstown.

Sgt Michael Kennedy of Blanchardstown Garda Station told the court he arrested Mr Byrne on Friday night for the murder of Mark Smyth.

Mark Smyth, originally from Ballymun in Dublin, but living in Duleek in Co Meath died at Fortlawn Avenue in Blanchardstown from a number of stab wounds

The off-duty taxi driver had collected a couple in Clonee and drove them to the estate where a row broke out, Mr Smyth left his car and later collapsed in the garden of a house.

On Thursday gardaĂ­ arrested a man and a woman.

The woman has been released without charge.

Carlos Byrne has been remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.
