Nobel peace prize laureate and former SDLP leader John Hume was involved in a car accident tonight.

Nobel peace prize laureate and former SDLP leader John Hume was involved in a car accident tonight.

The two-car collision happened near Greencastle, Co Donegal.

An SDLP spokesman said Mr Hume was travelling with his wife Pat when the accident happened at 5.30pm and both suffered minor injuries.

“Former SDLP leader John Hume and his wife Pat were involved in a minor road traffic accident at Carrowprassna near Greencastle, Co Donegal at 5.30pm today,” he said.

“Two cars were involved in the incident.

“Mr and Mrs Hume were taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where they were assessed for minor injuries and subsequently released."
