The head of the Health Service Executive Brendan Drumm has said he is confident that pharmacists will continue to supply medication under the community drugs scheme.

Hundreds of pharmacies are threatening to pull out of the scheme after the HSE slashed the price it pays for wholesale medicines.

The Pharmaceutical Union has claimed the move will result in the closure of some 300 chemists nationwide.
