Gardaí search for missing Waterford teen

A search and rescue operation has been underway in Waterford city for more than six hours in an effort to locate a missing teenager.

The alarm was raised at about 4am this morning when two men, both about 18 years of age, were seen falling from the bridge at the Clock Tower and into the river.

One of the youths was rescued by local gardaí and brought to Waterford Regional Hospital for treatment, but the other man is still missing.

The Garda Water Unit and helicopter, as well as the coastguard and the Fethard and Tramore lifeboats are at the scene.

They are hoping to step up the search efforts at about 2.30pm this afternoon, when there will be a low tide.

Conditions are said to be fair.
