Human rights watchdog criticises Immigration Bill

Ireland's human rights watchdog has raised concerns about the Government's proposed new immigration legislation.

An Immigration Bill published by the Minister for Justice last month would make it easier for the authorities to detain and deport illegal immigrants.

The Human Rights Commission says it is worried about provisions to detain asylum seekers in prisons and garda stations, which it says is unacceptable.
