Shannon Airport back to normal

Shannon Airport is running as normal this morning after hundreds of passengers were delayed due to a strike by Air Traffic Controllers last night.

The unofficial action affected five incoming flights and one out-bound flight.

The three hour unofficial strike by Air Traffic Controllers began at 9pm.

The walk-out meant an incoming flight from Gdansk to Shannon was delayed by around two hours while an outgoing flight to Gdansk was put back by about an hour and a half.

Four incoming Ryanair flights from Tenerife, Fuertventura, Faro and Paris were also delayed by between 20 and 40 minutes.

They came in to land at Shannon after the strike was lifted at midnight.

This dispute centres on a row between the Air Traffic Controllers and the Irish Aviation Authority over staffing levels.

It has left the Air Traffic Controllers refusing to do overtime and so far talks at the Labour Relations Commission have failed to resolve the dispute.
