Orange Hall attacked by vandals in the North
An Orange hall has been targeted by vandals in an overnight attack in Co Fermanagh.
Three windows were smashed and paint thrown over the walls of Newtownbutler Orange Hall.
The incident is the latest in the ongoing spate of attacks against Orange Order premises across Ireland.
The building in Newtownbutler has been targeted frequently over the last number of years.
In the latest attack, vandals had to pull off security grilles in order to break the specially reinforced windows. The culprits ran off when local people raised the alarm.
Co. Fermanagh Grand Master and local Assembly member Tom Elliott said the attack was very well organised.
“The people responsible were clearly intent on causing a lot of damage and who knows what would have happened if they had not been disturbed,” he said.
“I have condemned all attacks on property in the area and I would now like the people of Newtownbutler, and their elected representatives, to stand up and make it clear that they are opposed to this latest attack.
“Anyone who has any information should contact the police immediately.”
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
