CARI warns against linking 'C' case and Lisbon Treaty referendum

CARI has said that it is sceptical about the possibility that constitutional changes on children's rights may be separated into two referendums.

The group, Ireland's main provider of therapy to sexually abused children, warned today that a cross-party consensus which could result in addressing the Supreme Court decision in the 'C' case on the same day as the Lisbon Treaty is unwise.

Pressure groups had until today to make submissions on the issues and wording for the Children's Rights referendum due to be held this year.

CARI chief executive Mary Flaherty said that the Taoiseach's revelation that the government is considering Opposition proposals has come as a bombshell.
