Walkers sought for Sumatra charity trek

Walkers will today be urged to explore an Indonesian island in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.

The charity will announce details of its sponsored trek across Sumatra, which is taking place in October.

The Foundation's overseas walks raise more than €225,000 a year and are an essential source of income for the charity which fights heart disease and strokes.

The money is used to fund vital research, heart health programmes, CPR training, a national patient helpline and support advocacy for better patient services.

Budding fundraisers will have to donate more than €5,000 to take part in the event, walking a minimum of 15k a day.
