Limerick gardaí fear further violence after shooting

Gardaí have increased their patrols across Limerick city following the shooting of an 18-year-old man yesterday evening.

It is believed the shooting on Parnell St is linked to a feud in the city.

The young man remains in a critical condition at Limerick Regional Hospital today.

A spokesperson for Roxboro garda station said they have re-examined patrolling and their main concern now is to prevent an upsurge of violence in the city.

Superintendent Frank O'Brien said the incident is thought to be feud-related and is asking the parties involved to remain calm and not to retaliate.

He described last night's shooting on the busy Limerick street as blatant disregard for public safety.

The 18-year-old victim remains in the intensive care unit at the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle.

Examinations are being completed today of the scene of the shooting and of the area where the young man later collapsed on William St.
