Dublin coroner to investigate as Fermanagh girl loses fight for life
The Dublin coroner is to investigate the tragic death of a three-year-old Co Fermanagh girl who died in hospital last night after suffering extensive burns when her nightdress caught fire before Christmas.
Rebecca Johnston died in Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin where medical staff had fought for weeks to save her.
The PSNI said they would provide the coroner with whatever assistance he required.
The little girl suffered burns on the evening of December 11 when her nightdress was set on fire by a candle in her home on the Cappog Road outside Enniskillen.
She was taken initially to the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen with her mother who suffered burns to her hands as she frantically tried to beat out the flames.
Later it was decided Rebecca needed specialist treatment and she was taken by ambulance to Dublin with a PSNI escort to the border and Garda escort the rest of the way.
