The North's Police Ombudsman may be called in to investigate claims that the PSNI failed to carry out a full search after information that a car had crashed into a river.

The North's Police Ombudsman may be called in to investigate claims that the PSNI failed to carry out a full search after information that a car had crashed into a river.

The body of a man was found in the submerged car in Co Derry over the weekend, a week after a member of the public reported seeking skid marks close to a bridge over the River Moyola.

The police checked the scene at the time, but say they discovered no evidence of a car in the water.

However, the body of a single man in his 40s was found inside the car around 300 metres downstream over the weekend.
