West coast wave warning for outdoor sports
Surfers, anglers and walkers are being urged to be extra careful when out and about this weekend.
Waves as high as 10 meters have been predicted to hit the West coast today.
The country has been battered by gale force winds and heavy rain overnight and driving conditions are also hazardous, with widespread flooding reported.
Irish Water Safety is concerned about novice surfers trying to catch the big waves today.
John Leech has called on them to avoid the seas.
He said: "We have a new moon on Sunday and that will bring us spring tide, as well as well this very intense low pressure between Iceland and Ireland thatâs causing the great swell outside, they are talking about a swell of about 10 meters offshore so thatâs going to be very be very big for surfers. However it will be fine for confident experienced physically strong surfers."
