Cardinal Sean Brady has described the controversy surrounding the use of the word 'crib' in a radio advertisement as political correctness gone crazy.

The religious materials publisher Veritas decided to drop the word from a radio ad when RTÉ expressed concern about it.

The state broadcaster feared it might break the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland's rule that ads cannot be directed towards religious ends.

RTÉ cleared the ad for broadcast when Veritas altered the script.
