Family and care have been identified as the number one priorities for young Irish people in a ballot carried out by the Children's Ombudsman.

Family and care have been identified as the number one priorities for young Irish people in a ballot carried out by the Children's Ombudsman.

The results of the survey were announced in Dublin today.

Children in more than 1,000 schools and education centres around the country were asked to take part.

They were asked to choose their top priorities from the following categories: family and care; play and recreation; having a voice; education; and health, wealth and material wellbeing.
