A new film competition promoting responsible attitudes towards alcohol will be launched in Dublin today.

"Dare2Bdrinkaware" is aimed at third-level students nationwide aged between 18 and 25, with a winning prize of €5,000 up for grabs.

Aspiring film-makers and young people interested in social issues are being called upon to produce innovative shorts challenging the relationship between Irish culture and drinking.

Winning entries will be chosen for their creativity and for the insight they offer into students’ attitudes to drink, with the competition culminating in a screening and awards ceremony next April.

Sponsored by drinkaware.ie and the Digital Hub Development Agency, it will be launched in the Digital Exchange, Crane Street.

The initiative will be unveiled at noon by Philip Flynn, chief executive of the Digital Hub Development Agency, and Fionnuala Sheehan, chief executive of MEAS - the organisation behind the drinkaware.ie campaigns.
