Student raped at knifepoint

An American student has been raped at knifepoint close to a Derry pub, it emerged tonight.

The teenager was socialising with a group of friends in the Bogside Inn on Saturday night when she went outside and was forced into a nearby car park.

Police said the incident happened between 10.30pm and midnight in the Westland Street car park.

“The female victim, who is aged in her late teens, sustained minor injuries and was left seriously traumatised by her ordeal,” a spokeswoman said.

Detectives in the city are appealing for anybody with information to contact them.
