Cowen may have to raise taxes, say ESRI

The Economic and Social Research Institute is warning that Minister for Finance Brian Cowen may have to raise taxes in this year's Budget in order to maintain public services.

The warning follows a sharp deterioration in the public finances this year prompted mainly by the slowdown in the housing market.
