Gardaí in County Monaghan have launched a murder investigation following a fatal assault on a man near Castleblaney last night.

Gardaí in County Monaghan have launched a murder investigation following a fatal assault on a man near Castleblaney last night.

The 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda following the incident, which happened in Tullyvannus, near the border with Co Armagh.

Castleblaney Gardai were alerted to an incident at around 8pm last night at roadside outhouses on a farm in Tullyvannus where the 21-year-old man was discovered.

He was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was pronounced dead.

The man has been named locally as Paul Quinn of Annamar, Cullyhanna, Co Armagh.

A Garda technical team is understood to have arrived at the scene late last night.
