Art exhibition to reflect Polish links

The closer links between Ireland and Poland are to be reflected in a special exhibition spanning 50 years of Polish art opening today.

The exhibition Paintings from Poland: Symbolism to Modern Art (1880-1930) in the Millennium Wing of the National Gallery of Ireland is the result of a special collaboration with the National Museum in Warsaw.

It will include 74 paintings selected from the renowned Polish museum, with works also provided by private collections and other galleries in Poland including the National Museum in Cracow.

The showcase will include the work of two generations of painters living through a turbulent period in Poland’s history from the turn of the 19th century to the outbreak of World War II.

Dr Dorota Folga-Januszewska of the National Museum in Warsaw will attend the launch of the Dublin exhibition today.
