The Minister for the Environment John Gormley is meeting with a number of other European Environment Ministers in Austria today to discuss the future of nuclear energy.

Gormley says he will voice his concerns that it's being put forward as a solution to climate change.

He also says he'll be highlighting the dangers that nuclear states pose to their non-nuclear neighbours.

It comes as the Radiological Protection Institute publishes a report saying that the Wylfa nuclear power station in Wales poses no threat to the health of the Irish people.

"Reactors are in general well-built, so the chances of there being a serious accident at the site are about one every one million years," said Dr Tony Colgan of the RPII.

"Then you add on to that that if even that accident was to happen the amount of irregular activity that would get into the environment would be relatively low."
