Animal welfare groups call for ban on fur farming

The Green Party has today been called on to introduce legislation banning fur farming in Ireland.

Compassion in World Farming have said more than 166,000 mink and 600 foxes are reared for their fur here every year.

It is one of a number of groups meeting in Dublin today for the All Ireland Animal Welfare Conference.

Compassion in World Farming spokesperson Mary-Anne Bartlett has said she is hopeful that the Green's presence in Government will lead to a ban on fur farms.
