Derry man unaccounted for after Thai plane crash

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that at least one Irish person is unaccounted for following yesterday's plane crash in Thailand.

Irish consular officials in Phuket are looking into the whereabouts of 22-year-old Derry man Aaron Toland, who was among at least four Irish people caught up in the crash.

His friend, Christopher Cooley, was among at least three Irish people who survived the crash and who are currently being treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two are John O'Donnell, from Liscannor in Co Clare, and William Burke, from Nenagh, Co Tipperary.

A total of 88 people lost their lives when the aircraft crashed while trying to land in Phuket during a heavy rainstorm.

One hundred and thirty people were on board, the majority of them western holidaymakers.
