Parents are being warned this morning about the dangers of some of the additives contained in sweets, snack foods and fizzy drinks.

A new study published in the Lancet medical journal says artificial food colourings commonly found in these products are linked to hyperactive behaviour and can affect concentration in children.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland is now advising parents of children who display symptoms of hyperactivity to limit their consumption of these colourings.
