Majority of prison officers say they feel unsafe at work
The vast majority of prison officers believe their employers are not doing enough to ensure their safety at work, according to a survey out today.
The Irish Prison Officers Association, which commissioned the research, says many of its members have been assaulted or harassed in their workplace.
It says two-thirds of the respondents to the survey felt unsafe at work, while 86% believe the Prison Service is not doing enough to protect their safety.
Almost half of respondents said they had experienced or been threatened with physical assault on a weekly or daily basis.
