23-year-old man dies after assault in Sligo town

A 23-year-old man has died following an assault in Sligo town in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened just after 1am on Joe McDonnell Drive in the Cranmore area of the town.

The victim was rushed to Sligo General Hospital, where he died just after 6am.

The scene of the attack has been sealed off for technical examination and the State Pathologist's Office has been notified.
