Bank-holiday drink driving up on last year

The number of drink driving incidents recorded over the bank holiday weekend is up on the same period last year.

Provisional Garda figures released today indicate that between the 3rd and 6th of this month, there were 384 incidents, compared to 327 for the August bank holiday 2006.

Three people lost their lives on the roads over the weekend, whereas last year five people died during the corresponding period.

Gardaí said enforcement activities in this area of road safety would continue to be prioritised.
