One lucky person in the south of the country is waking up over sixteen million euro richer.

The biggest prize in the history of the National Lottery was won last night - after eleven previous draws with no winner.

Until last night, June 16 was the last time the Lotto jackpot was won.

Record ticket sales were being reported in the run-up to last night's draw, and the National Lottery said it believes two-thirds of the adult population had purchased tickets.

The jackpot total was €16,185,749.

The winning ticket was sold in the south - and has the numbers 4, 13, 29, 32, 35 and 37, and the bonus number of 20.
