The Mahon Tribunal was today shown files belonging to an AIB official indicating that he was investigating foreign exchange transactions, at the behest of the Taoiseach, in 2005.

Jim McNamara has since told the inquiry that he could not be sure if the specific transactions had a foreign exchange dimension.

Mr McNamara also told the tribunal that he does not know why Bertie Ahern wanted information on certain transactions that were also being investigated by the inquiry.

He said the Taoiseach first requested details of his accounts as far back as New Year's Eve, 2004.
