McGuinness to meet Ahern in devolution talks

Martin McGuinness is to discuss devolution of policing and justice powers to the North with the Taoiseach today.

He is holding his first meeting in Dublin with Bertie Ahern since the establishment of the North's ministerial Executive on May 8.

Other items on the agenda include cross-border roads development the Ulster Canal.

The Northern Assembly has established a working group to report by next spring on progress towards devolving policing powers from London to a local minister.

On Tuesday, the Irish Government confirmed its €600m contribution towards infrastructure north of the border.

Part of the money will go towards the route linking Dublin to Donegal and passing through Co Tyrone. The road between Belfast and Larne is also to be upgraded.

First Minister Ian Paisley attended his first North/South Council meeting last week.

Today's summit follows the Taoiseach's recent meetings with Paisley in Farmleigh House in Dublin and at the Battle of the Boyne site.
