WIT reveals complaint about Athlone academic

Waterford Institute of Technology has said complaints were made about lecture material used by the man at the centre of the Athlone IT controversy while he worked there.

Dr Niall McElwee lectured in Waterford between 1992 and 2001.

A statement issued this evening has said the appropriateness of the material was raised with management by another staff member.

An internal review deemed it to be inappropriate and Dr McElwee was ordered to discontinue its use, which he did.

The statement also said no complaints were received from students about his conduct during his time there.
